READ has sent 205  backpacks with school supplies for the children impacted by the recent tornado activity in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

November 15, 2023

Through a a generous donation and partnership with Give the Dream Foundation, READ supplied Lahaina schools with 55 TI84 calculators, over 600 mechanical pencils, pencil lead refills, and graph paper to help local high school students prepare and take the SAT/ACT and AP tests.

August 18, 2023

READ sent 524 packs to assist the students impacted by the recent Lahaina wildfire. The packs consist of a pencil pouch with pencils, colored pencils, an art journal, pencil sharpener and eraser. The Give the Dream Foundation will receive and distribute the packs for READ. Hawaii becomes the 12th state to receive assistance from READ.

READ delivered over 300 backpacks in Vermont. Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools, First Branch Unified District, and Ludlow Elementary all received assistance for their students. Special shout out to student volunteer, Ben Manning, for being the impetus to get us to Vermont. Vermont becomes the 11th state to receive READ's help.

40 Ojai Valley School students and 11 faculty, alumni, and friends packed 2,020 backpacks with school supplies to help students in need following recent floods in Northern California and tornado activity in Alabama.

  What a year it has been! On December 26, 2021, READ made its first major response in traveling to Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky to help students impacted by the Mayfield Tornado event. 967 backpacks with school supplies were provided to students in need from that event, raising our total backpacks provided to 1,017 for 2021. While returning home, READ set a goal of doubling our response in 2022. Unfortunately, our work is based on disasters but we are proud to say we achieved our goal!
  READ provided backpacks with school supplies following natural disasters to: Allendale, South Carolina following a tornado, 1,000 backpacks to Easter Kentucky following massive flooding in August, then finally 660 backpacks to Florida following Hurricane Ian. READ also provided 500 backpack for Ukrainian school children following the start of the humanitarian crisis through a partnership with the Refugee Empowerment Project based in Los Angeles. 2,175 children were assisted by READ in 2022.
  In 2023, READ will continue to grow; looking to build partnerships, applying for grants, and working to grow our response model. We know natural disasters will continue to occur due to climate instability and there will always be humanitarian efforts needed. READ will be provide backpacks where needed.

READ delivered 360 backpacks with school supplies, plus 30 bags for teachers with supplies, to Lee County Schools in Fort Myers, FL to help those impacted by Hurricane Ian.

READ sent school supplies for 300 students to Sarasota County Schools in Florida to help those impacted by Hurricane Ian. 

August 24, 2022

READ responded to the flooding disaster in eastern Kentucky that impacted thousands of students. READ was able to provide 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to Kentucky Education Development Corporation for distribution to those in need. Co-Founder, Anthony Williams, was able to deliver 280 of those backpacks in person to Jenkins Independent School as part of the response. 

August 21, 2022

Volunteers gathered to pack 500 backpacks to help students in eastern Kentucky. That evening, Craig & Anthony delivered 1,000 backpacks to Los Angeles International Airport to be shipped by Southwest Airlines to Kentucky.

READ has partnered with Refugee Empowerment Project (REP). READ recently supplied REP with 505 backpacks for distribution to Ukrainian refugee students and they also will be hand delivering some of the backpacks to refugees and asylum seekers local to the Los Angeles area. READ will continue to assist REP in supplying student refugees as needs arise. We are excited to form this relationship with REP and be a part of their organization. Today marks the one year anniversary of the formation of READ. It has been a slow process due to the COVID pandemic but we look forward to the year to come.

500 backpacks have been filled with pencils, paper, crayons, and a folder for elementary aged children. These backpacks were purchased with the funds from Giving Tuesday. Theses backpacks will be given to children impacted by upcoming natural disasters.

READ has received it's IRS determination letter granting it 501c3 status as a public charity.

READ held its first Board of Directors meeting. During the meeting, the following people were named as officers: Craig Floyd - President, Anthony Williams - Vice President, Gary Latham - Secretary, and Malcolm Brown - Treasurer. Based upon the actions taken at the board meeting, READ is able to move forward applying for non profit status (501c3) with the United States Government (IRS) and the state of California.
